Xiaomi, renowned for revolutionizing the smartphone industry, is venturing into the electric vehicle (EV) realm. Their latest lineup includes three distinct models: the Xiaomi SU7, SU7 Pro, and SU7 Max. Each model boasts unique features, varying in size, powertrains, and cutting-edge technologies, all showcasing the sleek Xiaomi signature on both ends of the vehicle.
Xiaomi’s Electric Voyage
Breaking new ground, Xiaomi applied for a sales license in China for their premier EV, the Xiaomi SU7 sedan. This EV is set to be manufactured by Beijing Automotive Industry Holding Co. Ltd (BAIC), revealing the vehicle’s specifications and design, formerly known as the codename MS11.
Xiaomi Car Specs
The Xiaomi SU7 stands as an electric sedan with dimensions measuring 4997/1963/1455 mm and a wheelbase of 3000 mm. Offering two wheel options, 19″ and 20″, with tire specifications of 245/45 R19 and 245/40 R20, respectively. Xiaomi showcased variants equipped with and without lidar technology.
Xiaomi SU7Â Powertrain and Features
The powertrain offers two options: RWD with a 220 kW motor and AWD with a maximum power of 495 kW (220 kW + 275 kW). Featuring an LFP battery pack from BYD for the base model and a ternary NMC from CATL for the higher-end model. With curb weights of 1,980 kg and 2,205 kg, the top speeds are limited to 210 km/h and 265 km/h for the respective models.
Innovations and Production
The vehicle features the TZ220XS000 electric motor from United Automotive Electronics Co., Ltd and incorporates an ETC function for automatic toll payment. Xiaomi’s HyperOS powers the SU7’s in-car system, a proprietary operating system developed in-house by Xiaomi.
Production for the electric 4-door 5-seater SU7 is scheduled to commence in December 2023, with deliveries expected to start in February 2024. BAIC’s Off-road Vehicle Co. factory in Beijing has initiated trial production, symbolized by the rollout of numerous test vehicles.
Xiaomi’s EV Initiative
Xiaomi announced its foray into EV manufacturing back in March 2021, committing a substantial investment of 10 billion yuan (1.4 billion USD) to the project. The recent domain registration of XiaomiEV.com in August 2023 further solidifies Xiaomi’s dedication to the EV sector.
High-Performance and Efficiency
Beyond aesthetics, Xiaomi’s EVs are powerhouses, featuring single or double-motor configurations that generate up to 500W (220W front + 275W rear). Accelerating from 0 to 100 Km/h in just 4 seconds, the top models boast an astounding battery life of 800Km, ensuring extensive road trips without recharge concerns.
