Vicki Sumner of Bernardston won $1 million in the state lottery’s first-ever $50 lottery ticket, the Billion Dollar Extravaganza fast ticket game offered by the Mass Lottery. According to the Lottery, she is the tenth recipient of the top prize.
At the Greenfield Lodge of Elks in Greenfield, she bought her winning ticket. The Lottery reports that the Lodge will get a bonus of $10,000 for selling the ticket.
Sumner made the decision to take her award in one big payment of $650,000 (before taxes) on December 26. She told the Massachusetts Lottery that she plans to enjoy herself and pay off her car loan with a portion of her windfall.
She wasn’t the only winner that day—an Oxford man also visited lottery headquarters to pick up his top prize, worth $1 million.
Michael Piers won $1 million in the $5 $1,000,000 Snow Much Money game, according to the Massachusetts Lottery. Piers was the inaugural recipient of the top prize.
He purchased his winning lottery ticket from the Oxford-based RT 12 Variety store. In addition, the retailer will be given $10,000 for selling the winning ticket.
Piers will receive $650,000 (before taxes) as a one-time payment and told Mass. Lottery officials that he plans to invest some of his winnings.
